Alliander HQ, Arnhem
To arrive at a design that resonated with the organisation’s values and ambitions, twenty workshops were conducted. During these sessions, Alliander employees and sustainability experts were invited to articulate their vision of the ideal work environment and identify opportunities for meaningful impact in terms of sustainability. The insights gathered formed the foundation of the initial design concept. Remarkably, the entire transformation was realised within a ten-week timeframe
Alliander’s ambition was to future-proof its headquarters and establish it as an exemplar of circular and adaptable spatial design.
The result is a workplace composed of four distinct spatial typologies that reinforce one another: a dynamic forum, an open-plan studio, traditional office suites, and a serene library. Each of these environments has been realised using circular material strategies.
Through a process of intensive co-creation with employees and sustainability specialists, virtually all components were repurposed. The building operates with a high degree of energy self-sufficiency and incorporates flexible spatial configurations designed to seamlessly accommodate shifting workplace dynamics.
