van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences, Leeuwarden
For Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden, the leading agricultural and nature-oriented university, we developed an environment that supports its ambition to become the greenest university of applied sciences in the Netherlands. Nature has been brought back into the building, for instance through the use of real wood as a material, creating a warm and natural look and feel.
In close proximity to the lecturers’ offices, interaction areas have been created where students and staff can easily meet and collaborate. The meeting and learning spaces in the building have also been fully modernized: flexibly designed, supportive of different work and study needs, and circularly conceived, ensuring they are future-proof.
In addition, the meeting and focus rooms are designed for circular reuse, and the technical installations have been renewed and made more sustainable, allowing the building to align both technically and aesthetically with the university’s green vision. Furthermore, visibility throughout the building has been enhanced, fostering greater openness and connection.
The result is an inspiring, sustainable, and contemporary educational environment that makes VHL’s identity as a green university truly tangible.
